Hi-Life, in the Basic Needs Pavilion in Hanover, was an apocalyptic supermarket epitomising consumer gluttony and waste.

Aerial worked closely with the artist Graham Rawle to produce an array of mechanoids from a collection of defunct electromechanical household items, combined with computer sequencing.

Vacuum cleaners were adapted to power car-tyre muscles, and blender motors shook heads. Barbara sneaked a swig of gin from a secret bottle hidden in her shopping, whilst Charles could be seen shamelessly puffing on a fag in his pram.
